This picture, many call the first manifestation of impressionism in painting. Light strokes line up in the image of a beautiful sitting girl who amazes art lovers with her unusualness. Thus, the almost photographic clarity and focus on the meaning has been replaced by the ease and momentality of the images of impressionism. The artist decided to deviate from the classical style of painting, which entailed the creation of a whole direction of painting.
In the center of the picture is a beautiful young girl, slightly bowing her head. The face is not shown very clearly, but a light smile and large beautiful eyes give the character to the main character. Despite the girl’s smile, the work evokes a slight melancholy and alarm. Some art historians perceive this picture differently, as if the artist conveyed a bright and cheerful image of a young thrush. However, it is better to perceive the work in two ways: a simple image symbolizes both light anguish and hope.
The darkened figure of the thrush is enveloped by carefully crafted natural light. It becomes apparent that the picture was created in the open. While sunlight predominates on the left side, the sky on the right side looks more alarming. In the lower left corner you can see the silhouette of the jug created by several light strokes. This element alludes to the personality of the main character. The woman’s dark hair, slightly shining in the light, is hidden in a cap, and a light cloth like a shawl covers her shoulders. The heroine, dressed not too luxuriously, is still admired, so the artist conveyed the splendor and beauty of a girl who does not belong to the highest class.
