Description of the painting by Ivan Aivazovsky "Misty morning in Italy"

Created in 1864, canvas and oil were used, dimensions - 208 by 149 cm. It is located in the Feodosia Art Gallery. I.K. Aivazovsky, Theodosius, Crimea.

In 1840, Ivan Konstantinovich went on a four-year trip to European countries. It began with a visit to the peculiar Mecca of the art world - Italy, which gave the whole world such great artists as Rafael Santi, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Giorgione, Sandro Botticelli and many others. First, the young artist went to Venice and Florence, then to Rome. It was in this southern state that he met many representatives of the Russian enlightened intelligentsia, among whom were the writer N.V. Gogol and the artist A. A. Ivanov.

The Italian landscapes, harmoniously combining the simplicity of human life and the beauty of the sea, were forever remembered by the painter. There they inspired him to write about fifty large paintings, but even after returning to the Russian Empire, he did not stop drawing them. The master even dreamed of sending him on another trip, so that after many years to rediscover the Apennine Peninsula and show talent polished by time and experience. Unfortunately, when the preparations were almost complete, the marine painter died. He was 82 years old.

A dark foreground shows a girl sitting on the shore. It seems that a man standing on the bow of a boat cannot wait to meet her. Perhaps he sailed from a large sailboat, slightly vague due to morning fog, to see his lover. A woman went down to the water along the steps carved into the rock, which begin from a small stone chapel. Next to it are slender pine pines, unusual for the inhabitants of Russia. As with the ship, a gentle pinkish haze conceals their outlines.

In the background, dawn reigns supreme, through the translucent clouds that flooded the sky with pinkish-coral and soft lilac. The solar path contrasts brightly with a greenish and calm wave.
